Have you started 2023 with a fresh new energy and making resolutions to exercise more, eat better, spend more time outside? You're not alone, IPSOS wrote an article covering a study about the new year and its ability to entice people into losing weight and making healthy changes to their lives. The study wrote that 45% of people in the UK and USA start the new year with these ambitions.
How do we do it? Everyone's approach varies but personally, I'm making a conscious effort to start each day with fresh air and moving my body, this doesn't mean long 10km runs at 6am or that I'm first in the gym lifting weights. It means that before getting in my car to go to work, I allow 10 minutes to walk around the local park, or just around my local streets.
Many people start with more elaborate plans, to complete couch to 5k, or to go to the gym 4 times a week. Alongside this, you need to make sure your diet supports your new ,lifestyle, don't risk yourself an overuse injury by not consuming enough protein. Don't spend so much free time in the gym that you're foregoing natural daylight and the free Vitamin D that this gives us. Make sure you're stretching alongside your new found muscle growth, don't allow your body's muscles to shorten as they strengthen, as this causes strain on joints and leaves us with hip pain, lower back pain and neck pain.
